Strange Company, Fremantle – Inviting, Friendly, Delicious
When in Perth you definitely have to pay a visit to Fremantle and Rottnest Island. Why? Because on Rottnest Island you will meet the happiest animal in the world while Fremantle will enchant you with its Bohemian flair by the sea.
I started my day early and took the ferry to Rottnest Island. There you will find the biggest population of round about 10,000 Quokkas. Little short-tailed kangaroos, that became celebrities on social media under the hashtag #quokkaSelfie because of their tame and friendly nature.
After hours strolling and exploring the tiny island, I took the ferry to Fremantle, which is halfway back towards Perth. Fremantle serves as the port of Perth and is beautifully located at the mouth of the Swan River. The city itself is picturesque with a Bohemian flair. Historical streets, cafés, fashion shops, galleries and bars serve as a great tourist attraction. My destination was the Strange Company bar, open midday to midnight.
Strange Company is a small bar in Fremantle with a very inviting atmosphere and a friendly team behind the comfortable bar counter.
What awaits you at Strange Company is anything other than strange. Cocktails, beer, wine, food. Is there more to ask for? Strange Company is a small bar in Fremantle with a very inviting atmosphere and a friendly team behind the comfortable bar counter. For the interior think of an urban jungle with Scandinavian coolness. Wooden panelling, indoor bamboo plants and a long bar perfect for meeting strangers. The vibe is open and laid-back.

You will find local beers on tap and the spirit and wine selection is stunning. A very creative and relaxing place. The cocktail list is easily categorised. I had two drinks, a sandwich, an espresso and a lovely chat with a smart young talented bartender. The mezcalicious take on a Negroni was superbly balanced and combined Vida Mezcal, Campari, Oscar 697 extra dry Vermouth with low sugar and notes of oak and herbs (great product by the way), and homemade lemongrass & ginger bitters.
