The Trip to “Panama”
Panama is tucked away at the rear brick building of the Potsdamer Straße 91. Panama is a restaurant, that combines local cusine with an exotic touch and a lot of smoke. Panama is also a small bar with about seven seats. They opened in June and the bar team of Le Croco Bleu found a new home at this place. A new menu with eight cocktails had been created. Grain, corn, malt, molasses, earth and juniper are the elements of the drinks. The spirits behind these elements are easy to guess. What is made of molasses, of grain or juniper? Except earth, here you have to think a bit outside the box. The names of the cocktails guide you from Berlin, Italy to Vietnam. I had a Salman`s Delight with an earthy touch and a Jerusalem Old Fashioned with sesame, chocolate and orange. As an extra, the bartender served a wonderful light drink with vermouth, white port and a single-field-cherry wine from Frederiksdal Estate. The wine ist stored for 18 months in French wooden barrels. Such practices give the wine increased aromatic complexity and reminds of barrigue notes with a dark berry fruitiness. The drinks are placed on solid coastern made of leather and served by a charming and attentive bartender.
Currently they are working on a new bar concept and it’s going to be interesting what will happen there soon. Potsdamer Straße will get an additional bar for serious drinking, that’s for sure.
Fortunately the concept restaurant and bar at own place becomes more popular in Berlin. I had a delightful evening with varied courses and a highly entertaining final at the bar.
